241st Birthday

The Fourth of July provides the opportunity for all Americans to celebrate the birth of this great nation. Two hundred forty-one years ago our founders signed the Declaration of Independence. This nation was founded on the principles of a strong faith, strong family, and a strong commitment to democracy. That's why it is important to be intentional about observing and protecting these valued cornerstones of our freedom. I recently watched a documentary about the perils of a country demoralized and destroyed by the untruths and abuse of communism. It was a stark reminder that while the United States is certainly not perfect, it is an example of how a diverse group of people can come together under one flag, as one nation, to govern and protect itself as well as providing help and safety for many parts of the world.

No matter from what country or state you hail, I hope you are proud of your heritage. For those of us who call ourselves Americans, let's be intentional about celebrating our heritage on this 4th of July. Spend time investing in those you love. Eat some barbecue, light some fireworks, talk and give thanks for our country. In the words of Ben Franklin who spoke at the 1787 Constitutional Convention:

"I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that 'except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.' "

May God Bless the United States of America as we continue to make a difference!
